I Bought A New Phone! (Nokia 5200)

I really wanted a new phone. My beat up 1108 looks like shit and all it can do it send messages and make/receive calls. It does that well, yes. And the battery life is amazing. But that’s about it. I was getting tired of people running around with better phones and not even knowing how to use them properly.

My plan was to get an EDGE compatible phone and use Airtel’s Net Over Phone (NOP) service and have the internet with me wherever I go.

After a lot of research at the Univercell and Wavetel Mobile (recommended by Chetan) sites I found only one phone that had everything I was looking for but didn’t cost too much. It was the Nokia 5200.

Nokia 5200

This phone has GPRS, EDGE, Bluetooth, InfraRed, memory card slot, Java support, FM tuner… pretty much everything. The only thing it doesn’t have is Wi Fi and 3G, neither of which I can use even if the phone had it since it’s either not available or too costly. It can’t run Symbian 60 applications which is a drag but I guess that’s asking for too much, especially since this phone costs a very reasonable Rs. 5600.

So I went ahead and bought the phone along with a SanDisk 1 GB MicroSD card for Rs. 600. I wanted a clamshell actually but since no other phone has all these features for this price I went with this. I’ll post a review of the phone later. I’m still fiddling with it. I have some 18 games installed now so I’ll never be bored again. The battery drain is worrying though.

Nothing is better than my Motorola C115 with its Ultra-Modern features, including the ability to place and receive calls. As an added feature, you can even send text messages.

Congrats on getting your phone. Keep it carefully, don’t crash devastate it like Raja Deepak did with his new one.
