Formula One F(or)ever!
I watched the Belgian Grand Prix yesterday and as always the race was great. Now we can see throttle and braking percentages on screen when following individual cars. There is a G force indicator too. You should see the indicator climbing to 4 Gees in turns and while braking! Good stuff. However I didn’t know where the old teams had gone. Jordan, BAR Honda, Jaguar and the rest. Back in the days when everyone had cable (and pay channels) we knew all the Formula One teams and most of the drivers. Well, I had the paid channels now and it was about time I followed the sport again.
I compiled a list of current teams and drivers from Wikipedia.
Super Aguri

These guys operate out of the old Arrows factory. Honda funds them. I liked the Arrows cars. They looked awesome. Super Aguri uses an old Honda chasis.
Drivers: Takuma Sato, Anthony Davidson
Spyker F1

The old Jordan team was bought by Midland Racing and they eventually sold it to Spyker.
Drivers: Adrian Sutil, Sakon Yamamoto
Red Bull

Red Bull, the company that sells that overpriced ‘energy drink’ of the same name that tastes like cough syrup bought Jaguar from Ford.
Drivers: David Coulthard, Mark Webber
Toro Rosso

Red Bull and Gerhard Berger bought the old Minardi team.
Drivers: Vitantonio Luizi, Sebastian Vettel
Ferrari

The well known team. Slightly less competitive now that Michael Schumacher has retired but still doing extremely well.
Drivers: Kimi Räikkönen, Felipe Massa
McLaren

They dropped the boring old West logo (I learnt from Wikipedia that West was a tobacco company). The only team that can consistently compete with Ferrari.
Drivers: Fernando Alonso, Lewis Hamilton
Renault

Drivers: Giancarlo Fisichella, Heikki Kovalainen
BMW

Drivers: Nick Heidfeld, Robert Kubica
Honda

Drivers: Jenson Button, Rubens Barrichelo
Toyota

Drivers: Ralf Schumacher, Jarno Trulli
Williams

Drivers: Nico Rosberg, Alexander Wurz
Some interesting news:
Do you recall the Malboro logo everywhere on the racetrack and on cars a few years ago? Well, due to good anti-tobacco campaigns they are now out of Formula One advertising. No more Lucky Strike or Mild Seven either. Ferrari is the only team that is still promoting a cigarette brand (Malboro) in the 2007 Formula One season.

I would like to take this opportunity to say that Häkkinen was The Man! Also Sato has been around for ages and things have changed.
Also, I dislike the sport. Boring. But different people, different tastes.

The competition between Häkkinen and M. Schumacher was great to watch back in the old days. Other old guys are David Coulthard, Giancarlo Fisichella, Nick Heidfeld, Jenson Button and Jarno Trulli. These guys are ancient. Fisichella was there when I started watching F1 racing years ago!
I miss Eddie Irvine. Irv the Swerve, he was nicknamed. Always good for some crashes.

McLaren not gonna get the constructor championship this time though they are in the lead. I think you read the news. It seems they used some of the Ferrari’s information and this was found recently. So the news said that McLaren wont get the constructor championship this time as they have been removed from the constructor championship race. But their drivers still compete for the individual’s title… I think you can read The Hindu dated “i dont remember ;-)” for more information on this…

Yes, I already know about that. I didn’t want to mention that in this article.
