Yahoo 360 Is Shut Down - What Did You Expect? Yahoo Sucks.
Remember all those invites you got from people asking you to join Yahoo 360?

This was yet another crappy idea from Yahoo to start a social networking and blogging platform. The only problem was that the interface looked like shit. And to leave comments you had to have a Yahoo 360 account. How retarded.
So I simply ignored the whole thing and looks like the rest of the world did too. Read the announcement about the closure here. Read the comments for that announcement and see how bad it was. Good riddance.
Let’s face it. All of Yahoo’s products suck.
Yahoo 360
Sucked so bad it was closed down.
Yahoo Flickr
Edited after comments from readers: People like Flickr and so consider it removed from this list of sucky Yahoo services. I, however, don’t like it because of the upload limits, as I’ve mentioned in the comments. Anyway, Yahoo didn’t create Flickr .They bought it from the company that originally developed it.
Yahoo Messenger
People only use this because it was one of the first instant messenger networks in India and this still remains quite popular. My friends and I are however are slowly moving to the Gtalk network since server side chat logging is awesome. Yahoo decided that having something that didn’t suck was a bad thing, so they put ads in the main messenger window.
Yahoo Search
Does anyone even use this?
Yahoo Mail
Probably the crappiest mail service on the planet. Puts text ads inside emails, has no free POP access, non-existent spam filters and more… Why people stubbornly continue to use this, I have no clue.
An awesome comment I found by a guy named… uh… Marc (no, it wasn’t me):
If Yahoo didn’t tie down every product they have by jamming the Yahoo name on the front of it. Then hiding it on a generic looking subdomain, maybe they would have some luck.

I never used yahoo 360 in the first place!! If I am right , I remember you telling that Id’s were getting stolen of people who started using yahoo 360 ??
Never used flickr or yahoo search either!!
As for yahoo messenger and mail, for poor blokes like me who just visit the internet once in a while (and arent analysing and comparing mail systems), they seem alright

Uh, no. I didn’t say that. What I might have said is that pages on Yahoo 360 that resembled Yahoo login pages were being used to steal passwords. That’s how Garima lost her account, I think.
Dude, Yahoo mail sucks. Everyone knows it. Just switch to Gmail. Every feature is free. And you get awesome spam filters. I get about 1 spam email in my inbox every three days. The rest all goes neatly into the spam section.

Actually you are right about the spam part, I frequently get spam on my yahoo!! I am so and so and so and so has left with me a sum of $0000…… . contact me!!
whichever lame ass falls for such lame mails.Actually people do…they end up giving their credit card number, social security numbers, even PIN
I already do use gmail. and gtalk. Its nice. I still hate the missing sorting option though!! I can organise my stuff myself and gmail doesnt seem to respect that. Instead they offer search!! Also google can even monitor ur mails. It does so too….how do those ads crop up on the right pane!! Google also advertises there , only they probably will make us believe that they are heling us find what we want

You are _not_ serious about flickr, are you ?
Who told you you can store only 20 photos ? You can store as many photos as you want. What they have is a _monthly_ upload limit. Yes, only an upload limit. Also, free users only get to make 3 sets ( or groups ) of photos.
I don’t see _any_ reason why this service sucks ? I use it extensively. /photos/preshit if you may.
Its one of the most widely used photo site and recently had its 2 billionth photo uploaded.

I’m not so sure all Y! products suck. Developers are beginning to like yahoo these days. I don’t know the exact reason, but I’m sure about this piece of info.

Marc Z says:
karthik, Gmail implements the folders feature through ‘labels’. One might argue that labels are better since you can add multiple labels to an email.
The contextual ads that are displayed are a result of Google’s automated systems. It uses keywords in your email to display relevant ads. It doesn’t read and understand your email in the usual sense. Would you rather have ads inside emails?! What is the guarantee that Yahoo doesn’t ‘read’ your email? They might be doing it secretly for all you know.
And the Google ads are pretty good because they rarely lead to shitty sites.

Marc Z says:
Preshit, I encountered a restriction and assumed that I had reached the limit. As we discussed over messenger, I don’t like the idea of such restrictions.
When I have folders full of photos to put up online I don’t want to hit a limit and then wait for the next month to continue. That would really suck. And why the restriction on photosets?
Even though the Picasa Web interface looks ugly it is usable and works the way I want it to.
Sorry about confining you at the Akismet Detention Centre till now.

I read someplace that Google uses your search terms and mails to monitor certain key words that relate to their businesses. The moment they find a plausible idea, they implement it before you even know it!! (As they have resources with them.)
You would probably take two years to implement the same and at the end of two years, you will find that Google has already implemented it.
Why am I against Google ? Because money makes you greedy and power corrupts. See what happened to MS!! Google is going down the same road……

ROFL! Good conspiracy theory, Karthik.
Seriously, don’t be ridiculous. They don’t monitor your email. Automated scripts check them for keywords only for the purpose of displaying relevant contextual ads. They have a terms of service and they have to follow it. Read their privacy statement if you are not satisfied. Whoever told you this bullshit?
Google has never been known to misuse it’s power. The only time it didn’t stick to it’s policy of ‘Do No Evil’ was for the Chinese version of their search engine.

Marc Z says:
No points. See the comments for that article. And since no one really uses Yahoo search anyway who cares? Perhaps we should trying it. I’ll check it out the next time I’m having trouble finding something with Google.
Ok, I’ll grudgingly give Yahoo a point for this.
Please don’t post full links. It’s breaking my layout. I’ll edit your comment.

Oh and we discussed Flickr in the comments already.
Also, Yahoo didn’t create Flickr. It simply acquired it cause it was doing so well.

Karthik, I agree. It was a bad idea to make Google such a huge thing, it’s too late. It’s much bigger than you or I, or even Page and Brin. Google steals ideas, true, because Google Inc. may not be evil, but Google itself has no conscience. How do you teach a computer about morals? How do you prevent a soulless machine from stealing your brainchild?
You can’t. It’s too late.

Did I tell you how Dubai is owned by Google? That’s why you see all those fast cars whiz past but they never stop anywhere and no-one ever gets out. Unless they’re a Google employee.

There you go, Karthik. See who you have for company.

Don’t talk about companies. Google is not simply a company. It’s a living organism, it breathes electricity and consumes data for nutrition. Make no mistake, our greatest enemy is what we see today as our most useful tool. Heed my word, my fellows, lest we become a mere megabyte in its memory.
