Why Dragonball Z Sucks
Vinod’s post about the Dragonball series reminded me why I don’t like the series one bit.
Apart from the coconut tree hair, the panting and yelling in the name of fighting is very annoying. A typical cartoon goes like this:
“Gokinkusha!!!!” (or some Japanese shit)
“Huh huh huh huh huh…” (panting)
“Eeeeeeeeeeyyyyyyyyyaaaaaaaaaaaahhhh!”
“Huh huh huh huh huh…”
“Oh no!”
“Goku!”
“Huh huh huh huh huh…”
“He is too powerful”
“Huh huh huh huh huh…”
And this for twenty minutes with out of proportion characters running on impossibly tiny planets and weird shit like that.

They always give a detailed explanation of what attack they are going to perform next. If its a sports Anime, things get worse. With all the characters giving their opinion about the main characters “technique” and how its utterly impossible to counter it.
Yeah, I saw a bit of captain Tsunami or tsushi or whatever. I forgot how to play football after watching that show.

So true Vinny. Sports anime is a totally different level of weird. The over emphasis of technique is in every genre of anime.
Suren, how exacty is that cool? Taking character in some jumping pose, putting a glow on his outline and animating only the background with a “Yaaaaaaaaaaaaah!” sound ends up kind of lame more often than cool. I’m talking about DBZ specifically, not the rest. I admit I’ve not watched much of the cartoon. You can point me to some clips to prove your point and I might revise my opinion.

even i’m talking about DBZ, what you’ve described there is the power up before the attack. attacks are beams of light or spheres or discs and stuff. i thought it was pretty cool.

Repetitive attacks, no new storyline (because all the sagas are the same, that is to kill the enemy at the end of each saga), wasting of air time with crazy blonde hair men yelling in constipated voices and trash talking with their foes who are semmingly more powerful than them.

Nice try on the storyline bit, though. That’s the basic storyline for everything on the planet from Jack and the Beanstalk to The Wheel of Time (stuff like the “His Dark Materials” trilogy is exempt) — kill the bad guy.

I’m not going to read it until I get to it through the right storylines.
If the story suggests that being all powerful is not so easy after all, the next time we play CS I’ll be playing in God mode.

indeed dragonballz sucks…story sucks, character development is a bore, no drama whatsoever, no complexity, look at the anime such as full metal alchemist and neon genesis…yeah DBZ sucks

Dragonball Z is shit. “Ooh, Planet Namek will explode in five minutes”. Six episodes of two characters hovering in the air talking shit later, “Ooh, Planet Namek will explode in four minutes and fifty-nine seconds”. Even the fight scenes (if looping the same three poorly drawn frames over and over again constitute a “fight scene”) are rubbish, though there is more time wasted with the bullshit supporting characters and their half-assed dialogue that fails to be funny or serious.
Even the plot is lame and repetitive. First saga: Oh no, two Saiyan warriors are coming to kick everybody’s asses! We have to train in 100x gravity so we can use our glowy power to defeat them!
Next saga: Some constipated ripoff of Kyle Reese from “The Terminator” comes back from the future and says “Oh no, two androids are coming to kick everybody’s asses! We have to train in 200x gravity so we can use our glowy power to defeat them!”
Long story short: Dragonball Z is rubbish and anyone over the age of 16 who actually likes it needs to be taken out into a field and shot.

Then so be it, shoot me. I love Dragon Ball Z, from the characters, to the story, to the fight scenes. Everything about it is a work of art to me. Sure, it’s repetitive, but you try and make 300 episodes and maintain enough originality in the characters and the storyline to keep the fans interested.

People that don’t realize that anime is usually based off of manga are already failing. Ongoing series are ALWAYS gonna have drawn out plots in the animated adaption. Go read the manga and tell me it’s slow paced. Ignorance.

Marc, you should give Naruto a try. And Bleach too. Just Naruto, not Naruto Shippuuden. After that, if you feel like it read the manga. Just watch first 5 episodes and tell me if you think they are bad. Watch subbed ones.

what about dbz is repetitive, each saga is different, ignorant anime fans of the new breed watch boring space animes like bebop and gundam, i hate mecha anime >.<, ignorant anime fans watch hellsing where evrything is computer animated, in dbz evrything WAS HANDDRAWN, which takes some level of skill.

I remember DBZ from when I was younger and I can tell right now I could feel my brain rotting inside my head and my IQ dropped that very day.
DBZ is what completely scared me from reading anything fictional for avery,very,very,VERY long time till one day my friend reintroduced (is that spelled right? :\) me back 2 the world of mangaand anime and I got to read some pretty cool stuff. *bum bum bum*then it happened my brother has just been introduced to DBZ by my cousins who are complete die hard fans even though they can’t understand a word they’re saying (they don’t speak english). Now I tried tolorate at 1st but I just couldn’t do it, then I tried to see if maybe rewatching the episodes from the begining 2 try and understand it more… couldn’t get past episode 3. Why does this damn show keep haunting ME!
