The Wonderful Life

It’s the New Year! That time of year when I am happiest!

So many parties… Which do I go to? I hope I find some imported alcohol. Good shit. Maybe there’ll be some good looking girls that I can hassle. I hope I get lucky and find a drunk rich kid. They are loaded with cash and willing to pay.

- The thoughts of a policeman in Tamil Nadu.

The movie Superbad shows two cops going nuts in the U.S. driving rashly on the road with no regard for traffic rules, busting parties and ‘confiscating’ alcohol. While it was funny in the movie and unlikely to really happen in the U.S. I thought about it and this is actually typical behaviour of the policemen here!

Police = Disorder and Anarchy in state

  2. Adithya says:

Agree. Just posted about the police menace. Most problems in the city are caused by the police.

  3. George says:

Somehow I find it hard to believe that Anarchy and the police could go together.

  4. Arun says:

Dude, police in the US do bust parties. They will pull you up if you made enough commotion partying.

  5. Marc says:

They do Arun, but only if you make a lot of noise and disturb the neighbours. They do not get busted for crossing some arbitrary curfew, they don’t have alcohol stolen, people taken to the station (unless the case is extreme) and given advice and shit like that. What we have isn’t policing. It’s hypocritical moral policing.

  6. Florchakh says:

    How you seen that video?

  7. Florchakh says:

    “Have”, not “how”, of course.

  8. Marc says:

Niyaz, what exactly do you mean?

Florchakh, I cannot hear the audio in that clip. What is it about?

  9. Florchakh says:

Alright, try this one. It’s 10 minutes long and so RAW, but definitely worth watching!

  10. Adithya says:

Sad. I heard tasering has been a major problem this year.

  11. Arun says:

At least our police stop with advice, not drag you to court. Leave the moral policing, I’m talking about other petty incidents.

  12. Marc says:

Cops abroad write you fines for petty crimes and sometimes let you off with warnings too. They don’t give bullshit advice that’s based on what your parents will think about you and how much money they’ve spent on you.

  13. Arun says:

For example, if you break your neighbour’s window. There, your neighbour will sue you and claim exorbitant money as compensation. Here, the police will mediate, if at all it went to the police, and would ask you to pay only for the window glass.

That bullshit advice given by almost everyone, not only by the police.

  14. Marc says:

What if you were than neighbour? Wouldn’t you want a lot of money?

Actually you’ll have to pay for the window and then the victim will have to pay for the honour of having the police visit his/her humble abode. It has happened.

Good point, everyone gives that advice, but with the cops you are forced to listen to them. You can’t ignore them, walk away or poke holes in their logic.

  15. Adithya says:

Arun you forget that we also have to pay the police.

  16. Arun says:

Ha ha, I guess it’s just adds up to the same thing.
