Last Semester, First Day

The last semester has started. The good news is we have only two days of college. The bad news is we still have to go to college.

Our lecturers have enthusiastically started classes on the very first day regardless of whether people are actually paying attention. I spent a lot of time discussing our Counter Strike matches and reading about the U.S. presidential nominations in the Deccan Chronicle that Naresh regularly buys and brings to college (thanks dude!). The elections are in the U.S. but the whole world watches. Kind of scary… for the candidates, that is.

The last few periods were spent fixing up the banner and the letter to be presented to sponsor. Now everyone refers to as this letter as brow-chur (’brochure’ mispronounced) and annoys me. It’s not a brochure, dammit!

Check out the posters we’ll be using. LN got it done from somewhere and we were customising it. This is how it looked initially:

Impulse Pre Alpha

I did some fiddling around for some time and ended up with this:

Impulse Alpha

I stuck to a grey silver white theme and it looks kind of dull. We’ll work on it in college some more and add some colours.

the after looks nicer.. but cant you tone down the whole graphics thingy ? its hard to read… ;/ whats teh point of a poster, if you cant read it from a feet away.

Did you click on the image and see the actual poster? It’s going to be blown up to A3 size.

  3. Sundar says:

What is the exact date? The first poster says the date is 5 Feb, but paper presentation entries should reach by 28 feb?

The second poster has no date. Maybe because it’s not yet decided?

  4. sindhu says:

i clicked. looks just the same to me, too many dark colors, too much sci fi tone that down!

    Good Work.
Btw., http://www.impulse2k8.in takes me to 404. what eh ?????

Sundar, it’s on the 5th of February. I forgot to add the date in the second poster. Paper presentation entries should reach us before January 28th. I bet people are going to submit their projects as papers.

Sindhu, too much sci fi is a good thing. Yeah it’s dark but it’s because of the background image so we have to stick to the colour scheme. We got it printed out today and it’s quite readable. Just rather dull. Let’s see how the final version looks.

Visu, the domain was supposed to be registered today. The site will take some time so don’t bother checking the URL regularly.

[...] I’m not very impressed. It looks much brighter, yes, but it also doesn’t look fully finished. That yellow just doesn’t belong there and the header text is simply too bright. It just doesn’t have that finished look that we need. What do you think? The previous version of the poster are here. [...]

The poster does look kinda dull, but then you haven’t seen our poster yet :D

I think posters should be subtler. Also, does entries mean just the abstracts or does it mean the entire paper ? Can I send an entry ?

  9. Marc Z says:

I have no idea about the papers. You are welcome to send an entry. We’ll use it in other colleges and win prizes with it.
