Choreo Night - IIT Saarang 2008
Yeah I was there. The show was at the OAT (Open Air Theatre) and it started by 6.30 PM. Alayan and I had standard tickets so we found a decent spot on the steps. Though the hard concrete was uncomfortable, the scorching sun caused it to retain warmth till 9 PM to it wasn’t that bad.
Choreo Night consisted of people dancing around in coloured costumes. The guy in charge of lights was a total moron as usual, using all sorts of random colour combinations which was seriously annoying. This time they turned off the lights where the audience was sitting so the stage looked much better.
I was bored initially with people talking some nonsense about polio and global warming, making the audience wonder what kind of idiots would chose themes like that for a dance. However I was very impressed by Crescent College of Engineering who used empty mirror frames and two people on both sides of the frame to create a mirror effect. The impressive part was that they always stuck to the theme, which meant that dancers on both sides of the frame did exactly the same moves at the right angles. They deserved to win but apparently they didn’t.
The rest of the themes were quite boring. Alayan and I left at 10.30 PM before the show ended.

Wow, that’s awesome! I can’t believe I missed it, thank god the rest weren’t interesting — It would’ve sucked to have found out the whole event was great after missing it

rachel, I got tickets one week in advance. It also helped that the places selling tickets were near my house.
George, you didn’t miss much. Crescent didn’t win though. Unfair.

I saw one dance based on some Mythic thing when I was in JIPMER, that was pretty cool - chariots and all.

Dude.. mark.. u prick..u actually went for a dance show.. n not a rock show.. suprising man.. anyways.. glad u enjoyd it.. i miss all that.. was not in town.. any idea if the video is out..?? thats the troupe i used to dance for.. it had to be rockin performance.. anyways.. let me know man..

Btw… Techo Fes had many drawbacks… they were extremely dumb.. they had 11 teams on stage for da final of Choreo Nite… Other than that on the eve of the event they chaged the dance timin from 10 + 1 to 8 minutes on stage… They caused utter confusion..

1 thing sad abt saarang is tat IIT chennai hosts it and participates in it… & Wins in it ???… I m a 1st yr now.. so i ve never seen any host participate in their own culs…

It does not happen anywhere else. It really is a ridiculous concept. They should stop allowing their own people to participate.
