They Broke The Internet!

Some idiot in a ship dragged his anchor across the ocean floor near Egypt and ended up cutting the cables that carry some of the major Internet traffic from the East to the West.

You can read more about Fraudband in India in my post old here.

Now my internet connection is jumpy and I can’t get anything done. One would think we’d have better backups in place. Apparently the backup cables, which were probably right next to the main cables, were also cut.

Adithya has been dispatched to fix the problem. He will evaporate the ocean and make it easier to fix the cables.

Read more about the current problem at here.

Balls, you’re telling me the ‘backup’ cables were cut? I call bullshit. If there were any backup cables you can bet they were being used to increase capacity. I find it hard to believe that they just left them lying there in the event that there’s damage to the main cables.

    @Marc

No dude, the backup cables are working, but due to the extra diversions over the past 3 days, there has been too much traffic in that line and so, it has become conjusted. So, ppl are experiencing slower than usual Internet Connections. Thats all. I dont think they would be foolish enough to actually lay the backup lines near the default lines, dude!

We pity you poor BSNL users with zero customer service and inaccurate billing.

BSNL users were the ones crying. Airtel had problems only for a few hours.

It’s the work of Arun M. He is the most likely suspect in this dragging anchors business. He was losing in a network game of quake and wanted to blame lag. There was none, so he went and made his own lag. Dont ask him though, he’ll point the finger at Anna Univ.

It slows down only in the afternoon. When I play wow morning I get 350 to 500ms lag. In the afternoon it goes to 1000 or more. Again in the night its back to normal!

BSNL was unaffected? How did they manage that?

  11. Adithya says:

They have so few users that people don’t use more bandwidth than what the backup lines can offer!

  12. George says:

Ha ha, very funny, but they have 2mbps lines. I hope they’re not getting it off Airtel lines. I heard Airtel leases out part of one line to BSNL. Perhaps the terms dictate that there must be some minimum provided bandwidth. That would suck for us.

Sundar, you may be right! Dai Arun M!

BSNL users are the worst affected but as usual they will deny it and support the incompetent service.

I dont know bout the rest of the BSNL users but my download speeds of 180 ~ 210 kbps remain unchanged since the cuts.

You wouldn’t have noticed it. We did since we played CS at that time and the latency was noticeable.
