The Common Enemy
It is nice to have a common enemy, isn’t it?
Microsoft, politicians, auto drivers, Anna University…
Scientology is the new enemy and people are fighting back. See this post to see how the protests at London went. Read the whole article.

I would have loved to be there. India remains blissfully unaware of Scientology, Internet memes and culture as is usual.

One does not use Scientology, Internet memes and culture in the same sentence. I would be glad to be oblivious of the first two.
February 11th, 2008 at 7:50 pm
Isn’t Tom Cruise into it ? MI: X eh ?
February 11th, 2008 at 9:57 pm
go anon go… im astounded as to how people actually believe in crap like scientology ….. its such an obvious scam and people still fall for it
February 11th, 2008 at 11:25 pm
Eric Cartman playing the Scientology’s heir in Southpark comes to mind. You know the one in which Tom Cruise locks himself up in a cabinet because Stan thinks Leonardo is a better actor than him.
February 12th, 2008 at 3:50 pm
I just wanted to clarify what I posted before. The last thing I want in this country are /b/tards.
February 12th, 2008 at 5:35 pm
@ Arun
Stan is the reincarnation of L Ron Hubbard in that episode… not Cartman.. Cartman doesnt even speak more than a couple of lines in that whole episode.
@ George
there already are /b/tards in this country… anyways the term ANON stands for more than just psychotic teenagers from 4chan
February 12th, 2008 at 6:20 pm
No idea what George is talking about. I think we have stuff that’s worse than Scientology in India. I’m talking about organised religion.
February 12th, 2008 at 6:25 pm
how can you just claim it as a scam? scientology is a matter of belief. not very different from other religions.
February 12th, 2008 at 6:46 pm
@Xavier: Oh lord, no. I feel unclean just being in the same country as them.
Oh yeah, it also includes similar fellows from digg, something awful, ebaumsworld, and places like that. I’m pretty impressed that they actually got out of behind their computers and assembled a real protest instead of something on Habbo Hotel. It must be because now Ron Paul’s out of the race, they don’t have anything to do.
On the other hand, while I support this particular instance (they have a right to, it’s a free country), I dislike that bunch. Denial of service attacks on Scientology websites? Please, that is pathetic, especially after making some sort of censorship claim.
@Marc: Hand in your geek card at the door, please.
February 12th, 2008 at 10:39 pm
@Xavier
Yeah, now I remember
It was Stan. It’s been a while you know.
February 12th, 2008 at 11:26 pm
@ George
True most of the stuff they do is absoulutlely disgusting
but a lot of it is pretty darn funny too.
anyways im still astounded to the fact that this was a massive protest… with /b/tards claiming theyr nobody’s personal army, organizing something on this scale seems like pulling a rabbit out of a hat.
@ suren
dude their whole story that human misery is caused by brain washed alien ghosts entering your body is so full of S**T.
Even if you can swallow all that BS , what sort of a religion actually charges money from people to believe in their faith?
what was it like 350$ for yearly membership? 200,000 $ to get all their religious literature?
i mean accepting donations is one thing but charging people to believe in something….. im at a loss to describe something like that with words.
@ Arun
southpark ranks #1 on my list of best tv shows ever.
i remember just about every episode even after all this time
February 12th, 2008 at 11:37 pm
Oh yeah, they can be funny. But it’s like searching for golden needles in the city sewers.
February 13th, 2008 at 5:23 pm
brainwashed aliens are as easy for me to believe as deities transforming water to mild alcoholic drinks or flying monkey gods able to lift mountains.
the payments are not for membership, they’re for audits and lectures which you can choose not to attend. either way it’s a matter of faith. if paying money ratifies their faith then it’s their choice.
February 15th, 2008 at 12:12 am
The problem now is that Scientology is trying to censor things. They can believe what the hell ever they want but they can’t force people to take down information about them from the net by using their influence.
February 15th, 2008 at 12:20 am
Yay aliens!
February 16th, 2008 at 2:19 pm
Yes they can, Marc, depending on what it is. They’re well within their rights to prevent you from posting The Gospel Of Scientology or whatever.
Simple copyright law, which you obviously support, or you wouldn’t prevent scrapers from taking stuff from your blog.
February 16th, 2008 at 7:08 pm
They did not claim copyright of their religious texts. They are trying to take down information about them. I do not go around suing people who quote text from my blog.
February 17th, 2008 at 4:46 am
That’s cos you are in India where the case will take decades to complete and the money you get will be obsolete by then. If you were in some other country and knowing you, am sure you will go around suing people for everything!
February 17th, 2008 at 3:13 pm
No I won’t. It costs money.
Speaking of which, they are still processing some case from 1993 about a court martial. Idiots.
February 17th, 2008 at 4:21 pm
Yes you will if you are going to get more money from it.
February 17th, 2008 at 5:52 pm
If I won it would mean that I deserved the money so it’s alright.
February 18th, 2008 at 5:35 am
Yes if.
