Network Solutions Screws Alayan

Just recently I read this article on the front page of Digg (/Technology) about a domain registrar called Network Solutions that immediately registers domains that you check for availability on their site (if you don’t buy it right away).

Today Alayan comes and says that he is going to buy an awesome new domain.

Me: ‘Was it available?’
Him: ‘Yeah. I checked at Network Solutions.’
Me: ‘ZOMG NOOB! Hahahaha!’

I then explained to him that the domain would be gone. Sure enough, he goes home, checks, calls me up and starts cursing Network Solutions.

Of all the sites on the Internet, he had to use that one.

For god’s sake, man. You’re telling me you don’t have a lookup utility?

I just checked vijayalayan.com and it seems to be free.

  2. Karthik says:

If the site does that, (and assuming it costs them money) , lets go type some weird domains ;)

  3. George says:

Well, ICANN chose to eliminate the domain tasting period, so you may actually achieve something by doing that.

This was on Digg. People did search for a lot of abusive names and Network Solutions registered all that. The costs they incur would be very negligible though.
