Soviet Russia Was Badass!
In Soviet Russia, the fool pities YOU!!
Soviet Russia was totally badass! Speaking of which, have you seen this ridiculous movie called Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb? It was very very odd.

It was a bloody awesome movie

You dare call a Kubrick movie odd and ridiculous ?
” Enna Rascala, Mind It.”
Agree with Sindhu. Awesome movie.

That was a strange movie, yes. But:
Besides, I hated 2001:A Space Odyssey, the Kubrick movie. It ended like a bad acid trip. Pretentious crap, so I’m not a big Kubrick fan.

Karthik, leave Tamil alone. You didn’t get it right. Just because it is a Kubrick movie doesn’t mean it has to be awesome.
There were funny moments yeah but it was still odd.

Mein fuhrer, I can walk!!!

@Marc,
It’s not tamil. Atleast not the way it’s supposed to be. If you watched enough movies, you would know that it’s from “Om Shanti Om”.
@George,
Agreed, the ending of 2001 wasn’t great (read conventional). We Indians expect a feel good ending or some great climax for an ending. Everything has to be built up and then become still better as the movie progresses.
By those standards, yes 2001 was good only in parts.

I liked Dr Strangelove - its a cool film. I also liked Kubric’s Clockwork Orange,
I hated 2001, Shining and ‘Full Metal Jacket’.
March 16th, 2008 at 9:55 pm
Frankly, I thought the ending was trying too hard to be something. I’ll give you an idea of what I think is a good movie: The Bicycle Thief. There, now that is a brilliant movie.
I’ve been looking for Burgess’ Clockwork Orange (the book) for ages, anyone know where I can get it? Landmark’s out of stock and Higginbothams never had it, I think.
March 17th, 2008 at 4:10 pm
As if seeing A Clockwork Orange wasn’t painful enough, you actually want to go ahead and read it?!
March 17th, 2008 at 5:29 pm
Dr. Strangelove is bad? I thought it was good. Wasn’t it supposed to be humour? Well, do you have a copy Marc? Can you lend me?
March 17th, 2008 at 9:34 pm
@Sundar,
How can you think it’s good without having watched it ?
I have a copy. I can lend it anytime you need. (If you can manage to get it from me that is.)
March 17th, 2008 at 11:31 pm
Karthik, George’s reasons for not liking it are completely different from yours. And why would you want me to watch Indian movies? Disgusting.
I saw A Clockwork Orange. It was okay, it has style. I wouldn’t watch it again or read the book though.
I didn’t say Dr. Strangelove was bad. Just odd. Download it.
March 18th, 2008 at 11:03 am
@Marc,
Yea, I never said you said it was bad. And I have watched it and have it already. Why would I wan’t to download it again ?
March 18th, 2008 at 6:41 pm
I was clearly talking to Sundar, who asked if the movie was bad.
Just because I mentioned your name in the first part of the comment doesn’t mean the whole thing is addressed to you. See the line breaks!
March 18th, 2008 at 9:20 pm
I have a policy of read-before-watching. That’s why I’m searching for that book.
March 19th, 2008 at 10:40 am
@Marc,
You should be more clear you know. Not all of us are endowed with amazing abilities to interpret line breaks as ways of addressing other people without mentioning their names. So, pity us lesser mortals and be more clear henceforth.
March 19th, 2008 at 2:56 pm
I did it in comment no. 4 and you didn’t have a problem with that. Sundar asked if the movie was bad and asked if he could have a copy and those lines are relevant only to his comment. Yet you claim you couldn’t figure it out.
March 19th, 2008 at 11:58 pm
Guys, wait, stop stop. You’re arguing about comment formatting. What’s wrong with you?!
March 22nd, 2008 at 12:14 am
Comment formatting is important!
