Flatland BMX Skillz

Cricket fanatics often live in their own tiny world and don’t realise that there are other sports out there, some of which are mindblowing. I watched last year’s X Games and it was crazy. The stunts in motocross, skateboarding and BMX were out of this world. You could watch it all day. Check out these flatland BMX stunts and just try not to be amazed.
Compare this to some guy knocking a ball around with a wooden stick and running a bit every now and then.

Arun M says:
Cricket sucks! All you need is 2 good batsmen, 2 good bowlers and other 7 scarecrows to win a game.
There are lotsa other sports that rock! Hockey, for example!
And lol.. cricket is so slow you can sit down and rest between balls.

I’ll watch any game except cricket. I like to watch hockey and football ( nice games indeed ).

I don’t divide and hate any kind of sports…. I enjoy each and every sports… Because of so many sponsors “Cricket” become more popular.. Due to that all other sports are get affected some what.. See the condition of our National game Hockey….
I like these kind of sports so much.. But it’s not popular that much here.. That’s the big problem here….

Karthik says:
I used to watch this stuff as a kid.
Marc, we guys can play cricket. Can you skateboard and do BMX stunts ?
@Selerines,
You ever played hockey ?

Marc Z says:
Karthik, that’s just dumb! Possibly the dumbest thing you’ve said. You cannot play cricket on a professional level just as I cannot compete in extreme action sports without training and practice. I can go around on a bicycle or skateboard and do a jump or two. You can whack a ball around or throw it at someone. The skill involved is similar.
Cricket has more fanatics so every single space is dedicated to cricket. If there was interest in extreme sports like in other countries we’d see facilities come up.
Also you cannot just go and play hockey if you are interested in it. You need friends to be interested in it also. Since everyone is obsessed with cricket it doesn’t happen.

George says:
Well, I don’t know about facilities, this guy doesn’t seem to need very much.

Marc Z says:
These are flatland tricks, a part of the set used in competitions. You need the arena with rails and ramps and stuff to do the rest.

Visu says:
This is cool stuff indeed. I used to watch it, but not anymore. In fact after the bloody ‘CAS’ most of us have stopped following many world sports, damn.
And Marc, How do you manage to always stand opposite to the unanimous opinion? Gather !
Posted on June 4th, 2008 at 8:23 am
Karthik says:
@Marc,
That’s not dumb at all. And I can compete at some level. It was just to show that you are all talk. All you do is crib and crib some more. Go roller skate in besant nagar with LKG kids.
And I play (field) hockey FYI.
Posted on June 4th, 2008 at 8:25 pm
Marc Z says:
It was extremely dumb because you tried to act smart and suggest that playing cricket with friends and extreme sports required the same similar amounts of skill and that I would take up the latter if I was really interested.
First, I was asking people to watch these sports and others instead of cricket. I wasn’t asking them to take up extreme sports since we already perform death defying feats on city roads.
Second, you claim to play hockey but have you ever mentioned this earlier in person or on your blog? Why is this? Probably because no one is interested in reading about them thanks to the obsession with cricket.
Third, you term every single post of mine as cribbing. Is this some new word you’ve learnt and want to get the maximum mileage out of by using it like a Maniraj?

George says:
My cousin is a skater. She’s really good, national champion and all that in 16+. Damn nice, eh?

Vin says:
If the city has proper wide footpaths and nice roads, i would wear roller blades and go to places. It would be highly economical and healthy at the same time.
Damn these politicians.

Marc Z says:
George, that’s awesome. Figure skating?
Vinny, yeah. But even if there were proper pavements and roads they’d still be filthy and I wouldn’t want my stuff running over spit, shit and other miscellaneous trash.
Posted on June 5th, 2008 at 11:51 am
Arun says:
Of course, she must be a figure, skating.
All right, that was silly of me but I thought figure skating was something to do with ice skating.

Karthik says:
@Marc,
I admire how you can defend yourself by shifting the discussion to unrelated stuff. If only that were a sport.
There are a lot many things I do not mention on my blog. I think that decision lies with me and not you.
Posted on June 5th, 2008 at 1:13 pm
George says:
Nope, she’s an inline racer. Don’t you need ice for figure skating?
Vinny, you know what’s funny? I tried that, but the pavements aren’t good enough and roads are suicidal. So I just settled for skating to and from the basketball court, a mere 300-400m away. But it isn’t worth it at that distance. Use a bicycle instead.
In any case though, I’m sure a good skateboarder would find places here where he can have fun. I’m pretty sure that most of the time they don’t play in arenas, but then again I don’t really know.

Marc Z says:
Arun, great reasoning.
Karthik, you were the one who took the discussion to taking up extreme sports instead of watching it. Now you accuse me of changing the topic.
The reason why you don’t mention those things is that no one is interested in hockey.
George, yes you need ice. I suppose you might have them in North India. Like I said, skateboards and rollerblades won’t work in a place where people don’t care about hygiene.

Sundar says:
Cricket is a great game. You don’t understand it because you dont want to. It is boring, it is dull, it does not have action packed into every minute of it. But to play good cricket, one needs to possess some really complicated, sound technique, and that’s where my interests lie.
Now don’t respond saying that skateboarding requires more “soundness” of technique. I am not comparing. I am only reiterating that cricket is a great game, regardless of whatever you may say.

Karthik says:
Bravo Sundar.
Plus cricket is a team game.
You learn all about team working and all.
Posted on June 5th, 2008 at 11:46 pm
Marc Z says:
All games are great games. To play anything well you need skill and practice. Playing something for fun is completely different from doing it professionally. I was asking people to open their minds, get over their obsession with cricket and watch other sports also. (Karthik’s comment that he can play cricket but that I can’t do extreme stunts is an example of an excited cricket fanatic trying to defend his favourite game.)
This is about the obsession with cricket in India at the expense of everything else, not an evaluation of the game of cricket itself.
Karthik, I’m sure that a game involving 81% of the team watching the remaining 19% play for half the match makes for a great team game. However my post is not about this and I don’t want yet another discussion on cricket.
This is a post about an awesome BMX stunts video.

Hey.. didn’t I comment on this post? Oh.. trapped as spam?
Posted on June 6th, 2008 at 12:53 pm
Karthik says:
If this post was about BMX stunts videos, then you should not have started the post with the word Cricket. You do that, you hurt our ego
and claim you were discussing only BMX stunts ? Dawg

Used to watch this, until the channels turned pay channels
Posted on June 7th, 2008 at 10:37 pm
Marc Z says:
Karthik, you started defending the game just because I mentioned it? Fanatic. And why the hell did you insert ‘dawg’ at the end of your comment? You have reached a new level of lameness.

I too love watching this game and excite Bike. But now all these buggers restricted my making those Channels as paid
