Babylon A.D. - Review

Jadugar Praveen (aka PS Putin) told me one day that Babylon A.D. sucked. I wholeheartedly agreed and then asked him what Babylon A.D. was (most things suck by default).

Turns out it was a movie starring Vin Diesel. Ah Vin Diesel… loved his character in Pitch Black and Chronicles of Riddick (the latter is a must see for the theme and art). And the game Chronicles of Riddick - Escape From Butcher Bay was so good I finished it twice. The Fast And The Furious, of course, was watchable for the cars and xXx was passable. So it isn’t surprising that I liked his deep voice (which was used extensively in the game) and the shaved head. So I went and got the movie and here’s the review:

Babylon A.D.
Movie Name: 4/10
Lame. It was based on the book Babylon Babies so they’re excused for using Babylon but why A.D.?

Setting: 9/10
Starts off in post-apocalyptic Russia and neighbouring areas. Anything set in Russia automatically gets a 8. 9 for the futuristic version. It would have got a 10 if they didn’t go to the US later.

Actors: 8/10
Vin Diesel, Michelle Yeoh and some French girl.

Plot: 2/10
Vague. Non-existent for the first part of the movie. Don’t bother keeping track of it.

Overall: 6/10
Somewhat entertaining. Worth watching if you like Vin Diesel or a post-apocalyptic/futuristic setting. Praveen claiming that the movie sucks is just another magic trick or a bid to take over the Kremlin (depending on who he really is).

Babylon A.D. is a movie? It never even saw the daylight here.

  2. Praveen says:

Marc! Are you actually telling people to see the movie once??? No way! That will be a total waste! I would probably have rated the movie half you rating!

@Arun - Well, I saw the movie just because it was extensively advertised in OOH Media in Chennai. SO, we thought we’d better check it out, but damn! Turned out to be a more disappointing movie than Hancock!!! :(
