Babylon A.D. - Review

Jadugar Praveen (aka PS Putin) told me one day that Babylon A.D. sucked. I wholeheartedly agreed and then asked him what Babylon A.D. was (most things suck by default).

Turns out it was a movie starring Vin Diesel. Ah Vin Diesel… loved his character in Pitch Black and Chronicles of Riddick (the latter is a must see for the theme and art). And the game Chronicles of Riddick - Escape From Butcher Bay was so good I finished it twice. The Fast And The Furious, of course, was watchable for the cars and xXx was passable. So it isn’t surprising that I liked his deep voice (which was used extensively in the game) and the shaved head. So I went and got the movie and here’s the review:

Babylon A.D.
Movie Name: 4/10
Lame. It was based on the book Babylon Babies so they’re excused for using Babylon but why A.D.?

Setting: 9/10
Starts off in post-apocalyptic Russia and neighbouring areas. Anything set in Russia automatically gets a 8. 9 for the futuristic version. It would have got a 10 if they didn’t go to the US later.

Actors: 8/10
Vin Diesel, Michelle Yeoh and some French girl.

Plot: 2/10
Vague. Non-existent for the first part of the movie. Don’t bother keeping track of it.

Overall: 6/10
Somewhat entertaining. Worth watching if you like Vin Diesel or a post-apocalyptic/futuristic setting. Praveen claiming that the movie sucks is just another magic trick or a bid to take over the Kremlin (depending on who he really is).

Zenni Opticals

I’ve been looking for a new frame for my eyeglasses for months. There are plenty of cheap frames but they all look flimsy and old fashioned. Whoever wants to go around looking like someone’s grandfather?

That’s when I found the Zenni Opticals site. A huge selection of frames of all kinds of amazing prices. I even found frames for as low as $8. They have a huge collection of frames in every possible combination and their prices are simply unbelievable. Not only do they sell frames but also lenses and specialised treatments like anti reflective coating and UV protection. How could they be so affordable? It turns out that they make their own frames and sell it to us customers directly, so that the middleman is cut out and we get better rates. I suggest that you look for frames here before checking anywhere else and the price difference and the range of choices will really stand out.

I looked at some customer reviews and regardless of your prescription, the rates are really good. Usually progressive lenses and other difficult prescriptions will cost you hundreds of dollars but it’s all in a day’s work for Zenni Opticals. Fast, accurate, low cost and you get lots of choices. What more do you need? More costumer comments here.

Jadugar Praveen

We all know Playstation Praveen (PSP for short), the founder of Orkut and pioneer in the field of multicoloured scraps. Thanks to my incredible investigative journalism skills, I now have damning evidence that PSP is actually Jadugar Anand!

My first piece of evidence is a collage of images I put together.

See the resemblance? They are all photos of PSP with and without makeup!

My second piece of evidence is Praveen’s own blog post about Jadugar Anand. This post serves the dual purpose of advertising the show (Google search 7th result for ‘Jadugar Anand’) and confusing people who have begun to suspect that PSP and Jadugar Anand are the same person.

Now that he has been exposed, I call upon PSP to drop this dual identity game… and send me tickets for his next show.

Just Don’t Call The Police

http://www.hindu.com/2008/10/01/stories/2008100161851400.htm

In India, this is the order of people to contact in case of a problem or emergency.

1. Parents
2. Siblings
3. Relatives
4. Friends
5. Reporters/journalists
6. Neighbours
7. Acquaintances
8. Government employees (bribes)
9. Hooligans from nearby slums
10. Politicians
11. God
12. Auto drivers
13. Rowdies
14. Contract killers
15. Terrorists
16. Convicts
17. Mobsters
18. Police

In fact, it’s probably better to stop with mobsters and then simply give up.
