Your Wish Is Granted

Found this on the internet:

The Hat

For some reason, I love it. So surreal and… I don’t know how to describe it.

With Cops Like These…

This comic strip at first reminded me of Indian cops.

But then I realised that they wouldn’t know what Hazmat or Superman was. And they’d be collecting money from bystanders instead of doing their job. And they would have pot bellies.

The Genius of Dilbert

That’s just…

…genius.

The Dilbert comic strip is pretty much my idea of a perfect IT company. I would be the Pointy-Haired Boss of course.

When I think about it, people I know do resemble Dilbert characters.

Pointy-Haired Boss – Me (wannabe)

Dilbert – George

Wally – Sanchan

Alice – Sindhu

Asok – Arun

Dogbert – Ragha

Flinch and Beanworld

A year ago (probably earlier) I paid some juniors in college to download over 10 GB of comics for me from Rapidshare links. I’ve finished about half of them and there’s lots more. I found two that were particularly impressive.

Flinch
This is a collection of horror comics that have unusual stories and are quite creepy. Some of the stories are outright disturbing. Must read.

Beanworld
This is a very original idea by an independent comic artist. At first it was annoying and hard to understand but as you got into the story the richness of the world draws you in and you appreciate how weird and wonderful Beanworld is.

If you want to get these and more comics, try Komics Live.

Watchmen – Alan Moore [Comic]

I like to read comics a lot and I have to get scans of them from the Internet to read on my PC (because in India comics mean Tinkle). I still have a few gigabytes worth of comics to read on my hard disk after finishing a whole bunch of Batman, Batman-Superman Generations, Sandman and other miscellaneous comics.

Watchmen is a comic book series by Alan Moore that I had heard much about. Expecting it to be amazing, I read it last night only to be very disappointed. The story was unexciting and the characters were all so dull and lame (with one exception). After all the praise (mostly from George) I expected it to be better than this. It reminded me of Transmetropolitan, a much better comic series. Go read that and give Watchmen a miss.

Vote For Obama!

I don’t complete understand the policies of all the U.S. presidential candidates nor do I care that much. I’m posting this image because it is so beautifully done.

US Presidential Candidates

The pseudo-Soviet Cyrillic text is awesome! This is art. This is what we should learn from.

Modified Symposium Poster

Some of my juniors were given the task of inserting all the stuff I missed out from the poster and also were also asked to improve it. This is what they came up with:

Impulse Beta

I’m not very impressed. It looks much brighter, yes, but it also doesn’t look fully finished. That yellow just doesn’t belong there and the header text is simply too bright. It just doesn’t have that finished look that we need. What do you think? The previous version of the poster are here.

Last Semester, First Day

The last semester has started. The good news is we have only two days of college. The bad news is we still have to go to college.

Our lecturers have enthusiastically started classes on the very first day regardless of whether people are actually paying attention. I spent a lot of time discussing our Counter Strike matches and reading about the U.S. presidential nominations in the Deccan Chronicle that Naresh regularly buys and brings to college (thanks dude!). The elections are in the U.S. but the whole world watches. Kind of scary… for the candidates, that is.

The last few periods were spent fixing up the banner and the letter to be presented to sponsor. Now everyone refers to as this letter as brow-chur (‘brochure’ mispronounced) and annoys me. It’s not a brochure, dammit!

Check out the posters we’ll be using. LN got it done from somewhere and we were customising it. This is how it looked initially:

Impulse Pre Alpha

I did some fiddling around for some time and ended up with this:

Impulse Alpha

I stuck to a grey silver white theme and it looks kind of dull. We’ll work on it in college some more and add some colours.

MORTAL KOMBAT!

I saw this video and it’s just too funny! Must watch!

DeCadence (“dee-’kay-dence”) is an A Cappella group based at the University of California, Berkeley.

What is ‘A Cappella‘?

Brilliant stuff, this video. The DeCadence members punching fists in the air like the audience in the Mortal Kombat games is also very well done. If you had paid attention you would notice that each member does a different part of the music. Amazing stuff.

After I finished watching this I felt sad. Nothing like this would ever happen in my college, ever. Creativity is discouraged in favour of rote learning in almost all engineering colleges.
