I know it came out months ago but I just finished watching it again on my PC and felt compelled to review it.
My God, what a movie. Gripping and intense, it pulls you in and keeps you there from start to finish. The plot is unpredictable and full of surprises ranging from OH SHIT! action scenes to poignant moments. Instead of a clichéd good versus evil theme you get a well thought out story that portrays the reality of life in Gotham City and shows the moral dilemmas faced by the characters. And we all agree that Heath Ledger as The Joker was just scary.
Cast: 8/10
Points lost for changing Rachel Dawes to Maggie Gyllenhaal.
Story: 9/10
The movie isn’t about the story, it’s about Batman.
Setting: 4/10
It was just buildings, buildings and more buildings.
Special Effects: 9/10
Skyhook. Batpod.
Music: 6/10
The same music from Batman Begins but was much more muted.
The Dark Knight is an amazing movie but I like Batman Begins better. The music, the characters, Cillian Murphy’s brilliant portrayal of The Scarecrow and Ra’s al Ghul… it was a perfect movie to me and the only one I’ve seen more than twice.
If you haven’t seen Batman Begins yet drop whatever you are doing and watch that first. Then watch The Dark Knight.
I haven’t actually watched this movie (nor will I ever) but I’m going to review it anyway.
Cast: 0/10
Ajith Kumar. ’nuff said.
Story: 0/10
Tamil movies traditionally don’t have a story.
Setting: 0/10
A mishmash of Indian locales with some foreign ones thrown in during random song sequences. 0 points for not including Russia.
Special Effects: N/A
The only special effects are in Vijaykanth movies - Vijaykanth moving, dancing, fighting etc.
Music: 5/10
Some passable songs with a few lame ones. One or two songs have Tamil rappers providing a bit of variety.
Quantum of Solace is the new Bond movie. As usual, here is my zero spoiler review.
Title: 0/10
It’s just a bad title.
Cast: 9/10
Daniel Craig is okay. Olga Kurylenko is awesome.
Story: 0/10
Dull and non-existent.
Locations: 5/10
A few beautiful places. Not enough Russia.
Action: 3/10
Excessive explosions. Usually explosions are good but they somehow they made it uninteresting. Nowhere as good as the other Bond movies.
Verdict:
Don’t bother watching it in the theatre.
I don’t usually watch movies that aren’t in English but this one sounded interesting.
Mongol (2007)
Music: 7/10
Beautiful haunting music that go well with the contrasting open terrain of Mongolia.
Plot: 6/10
The plot isn’t bad, just kind of discontinuous but not much is known about those ancient times so this really isn’t a flaw.
Setting: 8/10
Vast deserts, green meadows, rocky landscapes… you see it all over the course of this movie.
Overall: 7/10
Jadugar Praveen (aka PS Putin) told me one day that Babylon A.D. sucked. I wholeheartedly agreed and then asked him what Babylon A.D. was (most things suck by default).
Turns out it was a movie starring Vin Diesel. Ah Vin Diesel… loved his character in Pitch Black and Chronicles of Riddick (the latter is a must see for the theme and art). And the game Chronicles of Riddick - Escape From Butcher Bay was so good I finished it twice. The Fast And The Furious, of course, was watchable for the cars and xXx was passable. So it isn’t surprising that I liked his deep voice (which was used extensively in the game) and the shaved head. So I went and got the movie and here’s the review:
Babylon A.D.
Movie Name: 4/10
Lame. It was based on the book Babylon Babies so they’re excused for using Babylon but why A.D.?
Setting: 9/10
Starts off in post-apocalyptic Russia and neighbouring areas. Anything set in Russia automatically gets a 8. 9 for the futuristic version. It would have got a 10 if they didn’t go to the US later.
Actors: 8/10
Vin Diesel, Michelle Yeoh and some French girl.
Plot: 2/10
Vague. Non-existent for the first part of the movie. Don’t bother keeping track of it.
Overall: 6/10
Somewhat entertaining. Worth watching if you like Vin Diesel or a post-apocalyptic/futuristic setting. Praveen claiming that the movie sucks is just another magic trick or a bid to take over the Kremlin (depending on who he really is).
I present to you, the F35B Lightning II.
Holy crap!
*STOVL - Short Take Off and Vertical Landing
Disturbing.
Entertaining.
Inspiring.
Watch the movie and see why Batman is the greatest superhero of them all.
The Dark Knight, the sequel to Batman Begins is opening on July 18th! I’ve been waiting for this movie for months. Batman Begins was an amazing movie and the only movie I’ve seen more than twice. The Dark Knight is going to absolutely mind blowing with Heath Ledger’s performance as The Joker.
Here’s another The Dark Knight poster:
Screw all the other lame superheroes. Sissy Spiderman, godmoding Superman and the others are just so pathetic compared to Batman.
Someone videotaped an internal Microsoft conference and put it up. You can Bill Gates’ reaction to the Vista fiasco and how he deals with it.
If you’re still using Vista, it’s not too late. Upgrade to Windows XP right away. Or get Linux (if you don’t play games). Don’t get a Mac. Overpriced crap with hardware vendor lock in.
